The celebration of Christmas continues this Sunday with the story of the dedication of Jesus in the temple. In one of my favorite stories in scripture, Simeon and Anna are blessed to see the Christ Child and have God’s promise to not die before the Messiah is among them fulfilled for them. Simeon sings a song of praise including the words, “now you let your servant go in peace,” words we use at certain times of the year after receiving communion, when wee, too, have the joy of holding the body of Christ in our hands.
The promise of God is not just for one day, but for all the year and our entire lifetimes. We celebrate God’s presence in our lives at worship at 10:30 am on Sunday. There will be no Sunday School or Confirmation class this week.
A reminder that the Church Office is closed today and will be closed next week on January 1 and 2. I will lead worship on Sunday but am taking some time off between now and the beginning of the New Year. In an emergency, you can still reach me by calling the Church Office and following the instructions on my voice mailbox message. Our full schedule of worship and Christian Education will resume on January 4, 2015.
See you in church!
