Jesus’ friend Lazarus was dying, but Jesus didn’t see any reason to hurry over to where he was to be with him and his sisters. And it was not because Jesus knew he could raise Lazarus from the dead. It was because Jesus knew that death is not what we think it is, and often, neither is life. Lazarus would cease to be alive for a time, but he was never separated from God, and it is separation from God that is death.
In the Gospel reading for this coming Sunday we will hear Jesus say, “Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” Through Jesus we receive life eternal, life that not even physical death can take from us, and life that keeps us in the grace of God as we live here now.
We celebrate Life in Jesus this Sunday with worship at 9:00 am and 10:30 am. Parents are reminded that the 9:00 am worship service is part of our Sunday School. Please bring your children to this important time in their faith development.
We are also looking for some help in clearing the Family Room so the new carpeting can be installed on Monday. We will gather at the church at 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoon — we should be able to get it done in a hour. Please help us complete the improvements in time for Palm Sunday.
