“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few,” Jesus said.
I don’t think I have every met a Pastor who cannot relate to that statement. There is ALWAYS more work to be done in the church than there are volunteers to do it. There is always something that needs to be repaired, for example. Sometimes that might be a door hinge, but more often what needs fixing is a relationship. There is always something that needs to be lifted up. Sometimes that is a new light bulb that needs to go into the socket to replace the one that burned out, but more often what needs lifting is the spirit of someone laboring under pressure. Where is always a need for one more voice to bring cheer to a shut-in or comfort to someone in mourning or a word of hope to someone in despair.
At a time when our country is burdened with unemployment, there is no such problem in the church. There is enough work to go around – and more.
And, even better, the workers will enjoy a bountiful harvest! The work will bear fruit. We are called to do the work of God, which is always productive.
Hear the Good News: “The harvest is plentiful, and the laborers are YOU.”
Worship this Sunday at 10:30am.
